If you are coming to Maryland for a week r a weekend, you want to have the best time possible. Yet, you are one of those people who simply does not want to be labeled a tourist. You know the people who tend to flock like sheep and go everywhere everyone else goes. We feel your pain and decided to give you a quick heads up on some other destinations that are as untouristy as they can get!
While most people are going to head directly to Baltimore for their vacation destination, we want you to head on over to Fredrick. This is an incredible city that has more of a small-town vibe to it. While here be sure to check out the eclectic collection of shops and restaurants that are available. You are going to get all you would at Baltimore in a much simpler setting and without all of the tourists!
One of the premiere destinations in Maryland is the National Aquarium. While this is an incredible destination, it is also rather expensive and can get rather crowded. As we have already told you there are always choices and in this case, you will want to head over to the Calvert Marine Museum. Of course, this is not going to be as large as the National Aquarium, however, it is cheaper and a lot less crowded. In addition, you are going to see a lot if exotic underwater life and learn quite a bit about our underwater friends. It is well worth the short drive!
As you may know, many battles were fought across Maryland during the Civil War. However, few were bloodier than that of Antietam. While you may have a thirst to see this battlefield, it tends to get rather crowded. A much better option is to head over to Monocacy Battlefield. This is a gorgeous area that features the same type of battlefield vibe as Antietam, yet it is much quieter. In addition, it offers some incredible views of the countryside and quite a few historic homes.
As you can see, you can visit Maryland and not look like a tourist at all! These are just a few options as you research more, you will find other areas that allow you to enjoy all that Maryland has to offer without the high expense and the large number of people.
